Evidence that the fossil insect trackway Bifurculapes laqueatus Hitchcock, 1858 was made underwater

Three trackways attributable to the ichnospecies Bifurculapes laqueatus Hitchcock, 1858 found in Lower Jurassic rocks of Newark Supergroup northeastern North America are preserved association with current lineations. Each trackway takes turns so that parts parallel current This parallelism is interpreted as evidence trackmakers were entrained flowing water and had change course due current. If this interpretation correct, then morphological differences between B. laqueatus  terrestrial insect could be explained by trackmaker moving subaqueously. Further, B. laqueatus would constitute only second from region recognized being made subaqueously. From an ecological standpoint, aquatic insects made probably near the base local food chain, apex predators which piscivorous theropod dinosaurs.
